SUMMER FARM CAMP
Summer Farm Camp
Sport Hill Farm is proud to be one of the farms affiliated with The Unquowa Schools Farm Camp program. This program began in 2007 as a way to get children involved in seeing where food comes from. For more information and to sign-up for this camp please go to their website: www.unquowa.org
What is the Summer Farm Camp Experience?
The Summer Farm Camp runs for 4 weekly sessions for children entering 1st grade through 6th grade. The campers get to go on local field experiences and Sport Hill Farm is one of them. It is here where the children learn how things are grown on an organic farm as well as getting a little dirty with planting & picking seasonal produce. The children also spend time back at Unquowa where lunch is eaten as well as participation in other activities such as art, science and cooking. Sign-up for the 2010 program should begin in the spring.
What are some other activities to do?
Friday mornings are usually spent here at Sport Hill Farm, it is then when all children get to experience our famous "ZUCCHINI BASEBALL", yes that's what I mean. For those of you who have never grown zucchini before, when at its peak, they seem to magically grow overnight and can get oversized. So besides making lots of zucchini bread or cake, I thought, why not use it for a bat? Thus, zucchini baseball was born. What a huge hit this has been and it is not as easy as you might think!! Along with our baseball game, the children participate in a water balloon toss, potato sack races, egg races and just have some good old fashion fun.
